BP Increased? Don't Worry, Start These 6 Habits Before Medication!

Just For Hearts1 min read

Is your Blood Pressure increased? Don't panic. Before starting any medication, begin these 6 habits:

1. Walk daily for 45 minutes. No excuses. A brisk morning walk makes your arteries flexible and helps control BP naturally. Studies show walking alone can reduce systolic BP by 8–10 mmHg.

2. Avoid not just salt but all hidden sodium sources. Biscuits, farsan, papad, bread, instant soup—all are loaded with sodium. Reading food labels is the first medicine for BP control.

3. Get 7+ hours of peaceful sleep every night. Poor sleep activates the sympathetic system, causing BP to rise. Maintain good sleep hygiene by turning off screens one hour before bed and going to bed at the same time daily.

4. Eat a potassium-rich diet as a natural BP shield. Increase vegetables and reduce rice. Foods like banana, palak, and sprouts provide potassium, which helps balance sodium's harmful effects.

5. Dump daily stress. It literally acts as a BP valve. Practice deep breathing, light journaling, or a 10-minute phone-free walk. Lower stress hormones (cortisol) to calm BP.

6. Check your BP twice daily and record it. Home monitoring increases awareness and helps track patterns. This avoids unnecessary medication and prevents denial of high BP.
