My Sugar is Normal… So Why is My Heart at Risk?

This question has become very common in OPDs nowadays.

Most people feel reassured after seeing their HbA1c. But the real problem often lies in the fluctuations of Sugar (Glycemic Variability).

Understand it in simple terms 👇

1. HbA1c means average, but the sugar swings hidden behind the average are not visible. 2. If blood sugar fluctuates a lot during the day, it puts more strain on blood vessels, nerves, and the heart. 3. Two people might have an HbA1c of 6.8; * One's sugar is stable → lower risk * The other's sugar is fluctuating → higher Heart Risk

Simple example:

4. If the road is smooth, the car drives safely. If there are potholes every day, the suspension gets damaged prematurely. Sugar swings = daily potholes.

So, what to do? (Starting today)

5. Walk for 2-3 minutes after meals. This reduces sugar spikes by 20-30%. 6. Eat Protein first, then carbs. Sugar rises slowly. 7. Don't just eat sweets/refined flour; take them with fiber or fat. 8. If possible, check your post-meal sugar 1-2 times; this helps understand the pattern.

Why is this so important for the Heart?

9. More sugar swings → inflammation, plaque instability → increased Heart Attack Risk, even if reports look "fine."

Financial ROI (Direct and Clear)

10. A daily habit of 5-10 minutes can prevent future angioplasty, hospital expenses, and work-loss. Today's small investment = tomorrow's big saving.

* Does your post-meal sugar increase even if your HbA1c is fine? * Did you notice a difference after starting to walk?
