What is CRISPR?

Just For Hearts1 min read

CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats. It is a revolutionary gene-editing technology that works like a spell-checker for DNA. Just as Microsoft Word corrects typing mistakes, CRISPR identifies and corrects errors in the genetic code within our body.

Using this technology, we can: - Treat hereditary diseases - Cut out defective genes - Insert new, correct genes

Currently, CRISPR is approved in the United States for treating Sickle Cell Anemia and Thalassemia. Clinical trials are ongoing for Diabetes, Cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Traditionally, we have seen the cycle where a disease occurs, medication is taken, and the cycle continues. But now, with gene editing, we can fix the gene once and for all, preventing the disease from occurring.

This is a one-time treatment with permanent benefits.

In my 25 years of medical experience, I have never seen anything that comes this close to truly eliminating disease.

This science is real and it is at our doorstep. It is not far away; it is right at the threshold!
