What to do when stress suddenly increases?

What to do when stress suddenly increases? How to calm the body at that moment?

When stress hits, we think, “What will happen?”

But the body immediately goes into alarm mode: - Heart rate increases - BP increases - Breathing becomes rapid

At that moment, it's important to give the body a calm signal.

1. Breathing Reset Breathe in for 4 seconds… Breathe out slowly for 6–8 seconds. → Exhaling slowly activates the vagus nerve (the nerve that calms the body). ✔ Heart calms ✔ Brain receives a "no danger" signal.

2. Eye Relaxation Close your eyes and gently massage them with your fingers. → Activates the oculocardiac reflex (eye-heart response). ✔ Heart rate decreases ✔ Stress feels reduced (Gentle pressure, not hard)

3. Neck Awareness Gently touch your neck where you feel your pulse. → Activates baroreceptors (BP regulating sensors). ✔ BP calms ✔ Nervous system relaxes (Not a massage, just a gentle touch)

4. Movement Reset Walk for 2–5 minutes. → Decreases cortisol (stress hormone). → Body comes out of "freeze" mode. ✔ Thoughts stabilize ✔ Clarity increases

5. Visual Reset Move away from the screen and look at the sky or trees. → Reduces brain overload. → Resets the default mode network (the brain's resting mode). ✔ Focus returns

6. Hydration Reset Slowly drink a glass of water. → Dehydration increases stress. ✔ Body relaxes ✔ Fatigue reduces

7. Name the Stress Say to yourself, "I am currently stressed because of ___." → Calms the amygdala (fear center). → Activates the thinking brain. ✔ Panic reduces ✔ Control increases

Important: These remedies may seem small… But these are the body switches. 👉 Alarm → Calm 👉 Fight/flight → Rest/repair

📌 Stress is normal… But calming the body at that moment is a skill.

This is what we teach at Just For Hearts - routine, awareness, and tracking.
