Breaking News Doesn't Stop, But BP, Sugar, and Anxiety Increase. Why?
Breaking News doesn't stop, but Blood Pressure, sugar, and anxiety keep increasing. Why?
Let's understand:
1. The human brain is not designed for 24x7 news. The human brain is built to detect danger, not to constantly process information.
2. Every breaking news item is an "alert" for the brain. The brain doesn't decide if the news is important or not. It simply turns on "stress mode."
3. What happens in the body when "stress mode" is ON? Adrenaline and cortisol levels increase, leading to higher Blood Pressure, unstable sugar levels, and a faster heart rate.
4. Why does sleep get disturbed? The brain remains constantly awake. The feeling that "something is happening" prevents sleep.
5. How does anxiety slowly increase? Excessive information + uncertainty leads to a feeling of lack of control in the mind, which increases anxiety.
6. The body doesn't know it's just news. For the body, danger is danger, whether it's real or on a screen.
7. Being informed and being stuck are different. Being aware is necessary, but staying in constant stress is not.
8. Our democracy stands on strong foundations. Therefore, there's no need to remain in constant stress. Calm, understanding citizenship is what truly moves society forward.
9. Simple, practical advice from the OPD: Set a specific time for news. Avoid constant late-night alerts and discussions.
10. This is not escapism. This is taking care of your own brain. Self-control is self-care.
An important reminder for citizens who are voting today: Voting is a fundamental right of democracy. Today, it is important to exercise it consciously, calmly, and responsibly.
What does your experience say? Does stress increase when you constantly watch news? Write in the comments.
