Difficulty Breathing While Sleeping? Warning Signs to Watch

Just For Hearts1 min read

Do you experience difficulty breathing while sleeping? Do you find it hard to sleep without raising your pillow? Be cautious!

Some patients report: “When I lie on my left side, I feel heaviness in my chest…” “Lying flat causes chest tightness… I can’t sleep without a pillow…” “I have to sit up at night, otherwise it feels like suffocation…”

These symptoms are known as Orthopnea and are commonly seen in Congestive Heart Failure. The heart cannot pump effectively, causing fluid to accumulate in the lungs and chest tightness.

If you don’t experience breathlessness during the day but do at night, it could be a sign of Masked Heart Failure. Even if reports appear normal, an experienced doctor can detect this through examination.

If you find yourself needing extra pillows to sleep, it’s not just a habit but could be an early warning of heart fatigue.

If you or someone you know experiences these symptoms, share this post. It’s not just tiredness; it could be a heart warning!
