Gen Z Is Not Emotionally Weak, But Safe Spaces to Express Are Few

Just For Hearts1 min read

Today, young people are seen crying in theaters after watching ‘Saiyaara’. The tears are not for the scenes or the illness shown, but for the pain buried deep within their own hearts. Feelings that were never openly shared are now coming out through their eyes.

This generation is not emotionless; it is simply growing up without a safe space. There is no place to express themselves where someone will just listen without preaching or criticizing. And then a movie comes along that opens up all those hidden feelings.

Sometimes it’s about a breakup, sometimes a lost identity, sometimes the unspoken question, “Do I have anyone?”

Saiyaara is not just a love story – it is a mirror reflecting the inner turmoil of a generation.

To young friends: You are not weak. Hiding emotions is not strength – speaking up and expressing yourself at the right time is true courage. There is always someone – a friend, counselor, or parent – who will just listen and understand.

And for those of us who are parents and mentors, a request: “Listen a little before explaining” – that is the real conversation. We don’t want a gap between generations, we want connection – and for that, empathy is essential.

Saiyaara reminds us that what seems okay on the outside may be lost inside. Sometimes, all it takes is one sentence – “I am with you.”

The real question today is – are we a ‘listening place’ for someone?
