Is Sitting for 14 Hours Harmful Even If You Love Your Work?

Just For Hearts1 min read

Many professionals ask, “I love my work and don’t feel stressed. So what’s wrong with sitting for 14 hours?”

As a cardiology expert, I want to clarify: prolonged sitting can be the root cause of many health problems. Even if you enjoy your work, your body needs movement!

Here are 5 health risks of sitting for long periods:

1. Reduced blood circulation This can cause swollen legs, fatigue, and increase the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

2. Disrupted sugar and fat regulation Prolonged sitting can lead to hyperinsulinemia and increase the risk of pre-diabetes.

3. Decreased Lipoprotein Lipase This enzyme is essential for good fat metabolism.

4. Impact on Blood Pressure control Poor posture affects autonomic control, leading to blood pressure issues.

5. Increased heart disease risk Sitting for every additional hour raises heart disease risk by 10%.

Solutions: Small movements are a big investment! - Walk for just 2 minutes every 30–45 minutes to improve circulation and cognitive function. - Take standing breaks, talk while walking on the phone, set timers for reminders. - Even if you love your work, daily physical activity is essential.
