The Vital Role of a Caregiver in Patient Recovery
Medicines are essential for a patient's health, but if there isn't a person beside them to care, treatments remain incomplete.
Today, a 60-year-old patient came in. He has Diabetes but is not on any medicines and does not feel guilty even after eating sweets. His wife was beside him, tears in her eyes.
"Doctor, this man does not listen. Even when he is unwell, he says — nothing is wrong."
I looked at the patient. He still believed, "This is not very serious." But the person standing beside him was exhausted — mentally and emotionally drained.
I am a doctor — I prescribe medicines and give advice... but when there is no one at home to listen and explain, the effectiveness of my medicines decreases.
A patient is never sick alone; alongside them is an 'Unsung Warrior' — a mother, wife, son, daughter... sometimes a daughter-in-law, son-in-law, or friend.
These people: - Give medicines on time, - Communicate with the doctor, - Stay awake at night in the hospital if needed...
And when the patient finally recovers, no one even mentions the name of that caring person.
If reading this post reminds you of someone whose care helped you heal, call them today and say thank you.
Because sometimes medicines are not enough, but someone's care saves lives.
