Why is it important to measure Blood Pressure (BP) at home?

Taking medication alone does not guarantee that your BP is controlled! Measuring BP at home is the best way to monitor this 'silent killer'.

Who needs it? ✅ 1. Newly diagnosed: Before starting medication, measure and record your BP at home for 7–14 days. This helps identify if you have White coat hypertension. 2. Patients on medication: Only by measuring BP at home daily can you know if your BP is truly under control.

How to measure? 1. Sit quietly and measure after 5 minutes. 2. Do not measure immediately after tea, meals, or exercise. 3. Keep the BP cuff at heart level. 4. Measure BP twice each time and take the average. 5. Record daily in a Google Sheet or diary.

Use of records: • Helps decide if medication needs to be increased or decreased. • Shows the effect of lifestyle factors (stress, diet, sleep). • Detects Masked BP or Early morning surge. Masked BP means BP appears normal in clinic but is high at home or office.

According to AHA and ESC Hypertension Guidelines, Home BP Monitoring is the current standard and applies to all patients.

❤️ Three Step Control Formula: 1. Measure BP twice daily, morning and evening. 2. Keep records for 7 consecutive days. 3. Review and discuss with your doctor.

"Share this information with family members who have BP issues via WhatsApp. Because... 'BP control = protection from stroke, heart attack, and kidney failure!'"
