Doctor, Can I Go to Kedarnath? Here Are 10 Smart Health Tips for the Journey
Many people ask me daily, "Doctor, I want to go to Kedarnath... can I go?"
Let's understand 10 smart and healthy tips for the Kedarnath pilgrimage:
1. Start walking practice at least 4 weeks in advance – 3–5 km daily. 2. Your heart, lungs, and joints need to be prepared – the climb is tough. 3. Those with BP, Diabetes, Asthma, or orthopedic issues should consult a doctor first. 4. Recognize high altitude sickness: headache, vomiting, dizziness – pay attention and stop in time. 5. Walking early in the morning is easier – you can avoid cold, fatigue, and crowds. 6. Know in advance where rest stops, oxygen points, and medical tents are located. 7. Do not let dehydration occur – high altitude dehydration can be very troublesome. 8. Keep a nearby medication kit: BP/sugar tablets, painkillers, acidity medicine, ORS, sleep aids, and small bandages. 9. Avoid crowds, maintain your own pace – you don't need to impress others, keep yourself safe. 10. Reaching is not the only success — those who keep walking gain experience, closeness, and spiritual peace.
This is not just a physical journey – it is a path of mental preparation and spiritual clarity. When the body tires and the mind walks, the real journey begins.
I have been going to Kedarnath every year for the past 7 years. I have experienced the road, weather, climb, and oxygen shortage closely. Therefore, I say – faith is necessary, but preparation is even more important.
