Life After Heart Attack: 6 Essential Steps for a New Beginning
Life does not end after a Heart Attack; it marks a new beginning!
Here are 6 essential things to do after a Heart Attack:
1. Walking daily is the best medicine!
Take a calm brisk walk for 30-45 minutes every morning. This improves circulation, calms the mind, and reduces the risk of clot formation. According to the American Heart Association, daily walking reduces the risk of a second heart attack by 25%.
2. Avoid sleeping after lunch!
Post-lunch naps disturb your night’s sleep, which can affect sugar and Blood Pressure control. Going to bed early and waking up early is the key to success!
3. Measure your Blood Pressure and Pulse daily
Use a digital BP monitor and note your daily values in a diary. Sudden increases or decreases signal that your body is sending a warning. This is a sign to consult your doctor.
4. Reduce salt intake and increase Fiber
Avoid spicy and salty junk food. Eat plenty of salads, fruits, and whole grains. Simple eating habits make a big difference in controlling BP, Sugar, and Cholesterol.
5. Make a conscious effort to reduce Stress
Practice positive self-talk, light breathing exercises, and spend 15 minutes daily on a hobby you enjoy. Reducing stress also lightens the heart.
6. Join a Cardiac Rehab program
Cardiac Rehab is not just exercise; it combines fitness, diet, and counseling. Those who follow rehab have a 35% lower chance of a second heart attack!
Remember, a Heart Attack does not stop life, but now it needs direction!
