Metabolism: More Than Calories, It's About Rhythm

Just For Hearts1 min read

Metabolism doesn't just run on calories, but on rhythm. When the rhythm is disturbed, hormones get confused.

Rhythm isn't just a routine; it's a biological signal that hormones receive.

Why is rhythm so important?

1. The body recognizes time. If eating, sleeping, and moving times are fixed, metabolism remains calm. 2. Irregular timing leads to hormonal confusion. When timings change daily, insulin, cortisol, and melatonin get confused. 3. Late-night eating breaks the rhythm. At night, the body is in repair mode. Eating at that time signals fat storage. 4. Constant eating stops the rhythm. If insulin doesn't get time to drop, fat burning doesn't even start. 5. If the sleep rhythm is disturbed, everything goes wrong. If sleep is less or late, sugar control, weight, and BP all falter. 6. Morning light and movement set the rhythm. Morning activity in light gives the body a "day started" signal. 7. Weekend–weekday mismatch breaks the rhythm. One rhythm during the week and another on the weekend confuses metabolism. 8. Exercise follows rhythm, it doesn't create rhythm. Exercise is useful, but it alone cannot fix an already disturbed rhythm. 9. When rhythm improves, diet becomes easier. When timings are set correctly, cravings and overeating automatically reduce.

My opinion: If you want to improve metabolism, you first need to teach your body time. Diet and exercise come later. Rhythm first.

P.S.: A Self Assessment Check list PDF (in Marathi and English) has been published on the WhatsApp Channel to determine if your metabolism is disturbed. Download it, assess yourself, and start making lifestyle changes.
