Mind is a Metabolic Organ
"Mind is a Metabolic Organ."
What we call "mind" encompasses thoughts, emotions, cravings, and decision-making ability. Behind all this, brain metabolism is at work.
(Anatomically, it is the brain. Functionally, we call it the mind.)
Although the brain accounts for only 2% of body weight, it uses about 18–20% of glucose in a resting state.
This means that if sugar handling is impaired, brain function can be affected.
1. Insulin is not just for sugar
The brain has insulin receptors. It is related to hunger, satiety, and cognitive function.
If insulin resistance increases, hunger, cravings, and mental clarity can change.
2. Stress = Metabolic signal
Chronic stress leads to increased cortisol. This can raise blood sugar, increase abdominal fat, and disrupt sleep.
3. Less sleep = more cravings
If sleep is insufficient, ghrelin (a hormone that increases hunger) rises, while leptin (a hormone that signals satiety) decreases.
The brain's reward centers become more active. Cravings increase.
This is not a matter of willpower; it is a neuro-metabolic response.
4. Fatigue and mood
Insulin resistance and micro-inflammation can affect mental fatigue and concentration.
Not all mood problems are metabolic, but metabolism can be a contributing factor.
5. Why does exercise improve mood?
Regular exercise increases BDNF (a factor that helps brain cell growth).
Therefore, movement is not just for the body but also for the brain.
Mind and Metabolism are not separate.
Metabolic improvement means not just reducing sugar but also improving sleep, stress, daily routine, and muscle balance.
We will delve deeper into Metabolic Reset.
