A Morning Habit for a Stress-Free Day

When you wake up in the morning, your heart, brain, and nervous system are still in “rest mode.” Start your day with mindful breathing:

1. Keep your spine straight: This allows full expansion of the chest and lungs, increasing lung capacity. 2. Close your eyes: This reduces unnecessary sensory stimulation in the brain and activates the parasympathetic system. 3. Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds: Oxygen mixes into the blood through the lungs, improving O₂ saturation. 4. Hold your breath for 4 seconds: Oxygen reaches the mitochondria in cells, starting the energy production process. 5. Exhale for 4 seconds: Carbon dioxide is expelled, improving blood acid-base balance. 6. Repeat for 5-7 minutes: Heart rate stabilizes, Blood Pressure naturally decreases, and steady blood flow to the brain increases. 7. Take a 'moment of gratitude': With eyes still closed, take 2-3 deep breaths and recall three things you are truly grateful for—health, family, friends, or your own progress. This practice increases serotonin and dopamine, reduces cortisol (stress hormone), and provides emotional stability.

Starting the day with positive emotions helps the heart and nervous system handle stress more effectively.

This is not just a breathing exercise; it is a 'morning booster' of oxygen for the brain, heart, and cells.
