Protein Supplement: Science or Marketing?

Just For Hearts1 min read

"Should I take protein powder?" This question is very commonly asked nowadays. I only ask one thing: Is there enough Protein on your plate?

1. Supplement is not a base. Protein powder is not a meal replacement. It fills a shortfall/deficiency; it doesn't improve your Diet.

2. Who can benefit? * Those 40+ with low Protein intake. * Individuals at risk of Sarcopenia. * If you want to preserve Muscle while losing Weight. * To fill gaps in a Vegetarian Diet. * Weakness after illness. Going to the Gym is not compulsory. It is also beneficial for Metabolic patients.

3. How much to take? For most people, 15-25 g/day (≈ 1 scoop) is sufficient. Science does not suggest that a double scoop equals better results.

4. Meal-wise signal is important. To give your Muscle a “repair signal,” 20-30 gm of total Protein per Meal is beneficial. Total intake is important, not just the Powder.

5. Whey or Plant? Whey: * Quickly absorbed. * Higher Leucine content. Plant Protein: * Suitable for Lactose intolerance. * Practical for Vegan individuals. Read the Label. No added Sugar.

6. Concerns about Kidneys. If you have normal Kidney function, moderate Protein intake is safe. However, in CKD, individualized planning is necessary.

7. Common mistakes. * Taking Powder but not doing Strength training. * Total Calories increase. * Using Mass gainer. * Not calculating Diet.

8. Metabolic clarity. Protein powder is not a Fat burner; it is a Muscle protector. If Muscle is maintained, Sugar handling improves.

My opinion: A Supplement is a tool, not a Solution. First, fix your plate, then consider the scoop.

Next part: Strength training - how to give a Muscle signal?

Do you use Protein supplements? Yes Sometimes No Considering it
