Tongue Coating: Causes and Remedies

1. Late meals, indigestion, fast food – when digestion slows down, the tongue gets coated. 2. Lack of sleep, insufficient water intake, dry mouth – when the body is tired, the tongue immediately signals it. 3. Swelling or loss of taste in the mouth during cold or fever – this can cause a temporary coating. 4. Fungal infection (Oral Candidiasis) – coating plus burning sensation and loss of taste? This is more likely, especially in diabetes or after taking antibiotics. 5. Some medicines (for BP, depression) – side effects include dry mouth and coating. 6. Tobacco, gutkha, smoking – causes permanent coating and increases risk. 7. Not using a tongue cleaner daily – brushing alone is not enough; the tongue should also be cleaned daily. 8. Coating alone does not mean cancer! But if it occurs frequently or there is bad breath, pay attention. 9. Treatment depends on the cause: – Indigestion → Digestive medicines – Fungal → Clotrimazole/Fluconazole – Dry mouth → Water, saline spray 10. Do not fall into the misconception that "coating means heat" – without proper diagnosis, time and money are wasted.

See coating? Don’t panic. Understand the cause and take action.
