Cancer Is Not Just an Elderly Disease: Common Types and Age Groups in India
Cancer is not only a disease of the elderly; someone in your circle of friends or family might be affected. Understand the 10 major cancers found in India, the age groups they commonly affect, and the gender most at risk:
1. Breast Cancer Women | Age: 35–60 years Most common among women. Watch for lumps in the breast, pain, and skin changes.
2. Lung Cancer Men + Women | Age: 40–70 years Risks include smoking, pollution, and passive smoke exposure.
3. Oral Cancer Men > Women | Age: 30–60 years Linked to tobacco, gutkha, betel nut, and frequent mouth sores.
4. Cervical Cancer Women | Age: 30–55 years Caused by HPV virus, poor hygiene, and low awareness. Proper screening and vaccination are essential.
