Ozempic, Mounjaro, Metformin: A Quick Overview of Weight Loss Medicines in India

There is a lot of discussion currently about weight loss medicines available in India. Here is a brief overview:

1. Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) - Dose: Injection once a week - Effect: Weight loss of 10–15 kg - Use: For both Diabetes and obesity - Cost: ₹9,000 – ₹13,000 per month - Side effects: Nausea, reduced appetite, bloating

2. Ozempic® / Wegovy® (Semaglutide) - Dose: Injection once a week - Effect: Good rate of weight loss - Use: For both Diabetes and obesity - Cost: ₹7,000 – ₹10,000 per month - Side effects: Indigestion, decreased appetite

3. Saxenda® (Liraglutide) - Dose: Daily injection - Effect: Reduces both weight and appetite - Use: For obesity management - Cost: ₹12,000 – ₹15,000 per month - Side effects: Nausea, gas, occasionally gallstones

4. Xenical® (Orlistat) - Dose: Pill three times with meals - Effect: Reduces fat absorption from food - Use: Direct fat-blocking medicine for obesity - Cost: ₹3,000 per month - Side effects: Oily stools, cramps

5. Metformin (Obimet / Glycomet) - Not a direct weight loss drug but supportive - Used for Insulin Resistance, PCOD, Obesity, Diabetes
