What exactly is the thyroid?

Understanding this is important to ensure timely medication!

1. What is the thyroid gland? It is a gland located in the neck that produces the hormone "Thyroxine." If hormone levels are low, it is called Hypothyroid; if high, Hyperthyroid. It is more common in women aged 30–55.

2. Symptoms of Hypothyroid: persistent fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, feeling cold more often, mood decline, digestive issues, irregular menstruation, and difficulty conceiving. Often overlooked!

3. Which tests and how often? TSH is the main test, along with T3, T4, Anti-TPO as needed. After diagnosis, test every 3–6 months, then every 6–12 months.

4. What about medication? For how long? Thyroxine supplements the deficient hormone in the body. Take daily on an empty stomach 30–60 minutes before any food. Dosage depends on age, weight, and test results - 25/50/100 mcg. Many require long-term or sometimes lifelong treatment.

5. Diet and lifestyle? Fiber-rich and iodine-containing foods. Reduce root vegetables and soy products. Moderate exercise, adequate sleep, and stress reduction.

6. Thyroiditis is a neglected cause: inflammation of the gland after childbirth or viral infection. Initially causes Hyperthyroid, then Hypo. If diagnosed properly, it can be treated easily.

Thyroid can be controlled, but it must be understood!
