What is Inflammation?

Just For Hearts2 min read

In recent weeks, we have discussed Metabolism — how the body produces and uses energy.

But to understand many diseases, it is important to understand another key process: Inflammation.

1. What is Inflammation? Inflammation is the body's defence response. When the body senses infection, injury, or metabolic stress, it starts repair processes.

- Blood flow increases - Immune cells activate - Repair mechanisms begin

This process, when short-term, is essential for the body.

2. When does it become a problem? Problems arise when this process does not stop. This means chronic low-grade inflammation continues for a long time.

Gradually, this leads to many diseases.

3. Common thread behind many diseases Common diseases seen frequently in OPD such as Diabetes, Heart disease, Fatty liver, Obesity, PCOS, and some cancers often have chronic inflammation behind them.

4. Metabolism and inflammation When Metabolism is disturbed: - Fat storage increases - Insulin resistance increases - Inflammatory signals rise

Thus, metabolic diseases and inflammation fuel each other.

5. Where does inflammation occur in the body? - Fat tissue - Liver - Blood vessels - Gut - Mitochondria (the cell's energy factories)

6. Why this series? Many patients say, “Doctor, I have no symptoms.” But silent inflammation can continue for years.

Diseases often develop before symptoms appear.

In upcoming posts, we will explain in simple language with scientific basis: - Mitochondria and energy production - Oxidative stress - Inflammation caused by belly fat - Gut inflammation - Relationship between diet and inflammation - Relationship between sleep and inflammation

Understanding Inflammation opens a new door to understanding lifestyle diseases.

What do you think about this new "Inflammation Series"?

- Useful - Curious for next posts - Will follow the full series

Spreading health knowledge widely is true prevention.
