Should Heart and Diabetes Patients Avoid Sweets and Snacks During Diwali?
“Should I avoid sweets and snacks during Diwali if I have heart disease or diabetes?” This is a common question.
Diwali is a time of joy, togetherness, sweets, and memories. I never say that heart patients or those with diabetes should not celebrate the festival. But remember, the true joy of the festival lasts when balanced with health and limits.
Here are 7 tips for heart and diabetes patients:
1. Don’t fill your plate; eat to satisfaction. Avoid overeating until bloated. A small taste of sweets is okay!
2. Avoid sugar spikes; small portions are enough. Both sugar and Blood Pressure can rise suddenly, especially after meals.
3. Don’t forget your medicines; take them on time. Your body expects medicines on schedule even during Diwali.
4. Walk for 10 minutes after meals. Help your body. Walking reduces stress on the heart.
5. Drink water throughout the day but not excessively. Those with heart failure or kidney problems should consult their doctor.
6. Avoid staying awake all night; sleep is important. A peaceful Diwali night’s sleep is a treatment for your body.
7. Know your limits while celebrating. Do what you can, avoid what causes discomfort.
Festival moments are not just for eating but for living! Your smile, health, and presence are the real sweetness for your loved ones.
Wishing everyone a healthy and joyful Diwali! Happy Diwali 🪔🙏🏻
