How to Care at Home for Heart Failure (LVEF <45%)

Just For Hearts1 min read

If you have Heart Failure with LVEF less than 45%, your heart pumps blood less effectively. This means your body does not get enough oxygen, causing symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, and swelling. Daily home care is very important.

1. Check your weight daily: If it increases by 2 kg or more over 2-3 days, inform your doctor. 2. Measure Blood Pressure and pulse: Note if they are too high or too low. 3. Take medicines on time: Do not miss doses. 4. Limit salt and water intake: Excess salt and water strain the heart. 5. If you experience shortness of breath, chest pain, or increased swelling in legs, contact your doctor immediately. 6. Completely stop smoking and alcohol: This reduces heart damage. 7. Do light walking and breathing exercises as advised by your doctor. 8. Maintain a healthy diet and regular sleep: This helps your body rest and reduces stress.

For such patients, a Cardiac Rehab Program is very important. It teaches proper exercise, diet, and lifestyle changes to improve heart function, helps detect worsening symptoms early, and reduces sudden hospitalizations.

If you have questions about the Cardiac Rehab Program, discuss them and share this information with patients who truly need it.
