A 15-Year-Old Boy in the ER

Just For Hearts1 min read

A 15-year-old boy came to the ER…

For the past 1 month, he had been experiencing fever, cough, and weight loss. In the last 2 days, he started having shortness of breath.

Everyone at home thought, “It must be something simple.” A homeopathic consultation was ongoing (no objection to any pathy).

But the illness hadn't stopped. It was worsening.

Today, he came directly to the Emergency Room.

* Heart Rate: 180 * Oxygen: 60 * Severe respiratory distress

Within just 1 hour of arrival, he needed a ventilator.

X-ray showed Pulmonary Koch’s (TB) and now its complications.

Treatment is currently underway. The next few hours will be very crucial. We will see how he responds.

What went wrong or what should have been done?

* Fever or cough lasting more than 2-3 weeks is no reason to wait. * Weight loss in children can be a serious warning sign. * “The boy is young” is not a certificate of safety. * If there's no improvement despite ongoing treatment, a second opinion is a must. * Changing pathy is not an insult; it's a timely decision. * If decisions had been made before coming to the ER, the ventilator might have been avoided. * If an illness is not identified in time, it can suddenly become life-threatening.

Making timely decisions is very important.
