What Exactly is Strength Training?
What exactly is Strength Training? "I walk every day... so why do I need separate strength training?" Because walking and building muscle are different.
1. What is Strength Training? Strength training involves movements where muscles encounter resistance. Examples: - Squats (sitting and standing) - Wall push-ups - Lifting water bottles - Using Resistance bands
2. Not just Gym… it's Metabolic Medicine This is possible without a gym. Bodyweight exercises at home are sufficient. Chair squats, step-ups, and wall push-ups are excellent starting examples.
3. How often per week? 2-3 times a week. Full body movements are sufficient. No need to do heavy exercises daily.
4. How long? 20-30 minutes is enough. Quality is important, not quantity.
5. How many repetitions? For each movement, do 8-12 repetitions, 2-3 sets. You should feel some effort in the last 2 repetitions.
6. What is its connection to Metabolism? Muscles work harder, which improves glucose uptake and enhances insulin sensitivity. Therefore, strength training is beneficial for Diabetes, Fatty Liver, and Obesity.
7. Why should people over 40 do it? As age increases, muscle mass decreases. Strength training is like muscle insurance.
8. Is walking not enough? Walking improves circulation, but resistance is necessary to build muscle. Both together are excellent.
9. Avoid Overdoing It Don't start with heavy weights from day one. Progress gradually.
10. For Heart & Diabetes patients Resistance training can improve insulin sensitivity. Muscles are more powerful than medicines. In stable Heart patients, supervised, graded strength training can be safe. However, in uncontrolled cases, evaluation is necessary.
My Opinion: Strength training is not just gym culture; it is metabolic insurance. Protect your muscles. Maintain your metabolism.
